It's making me dull, though I love what I do. The amount is the issue. Let's make a list of places where I should spend January.

I've been dreaming of my own Vogl boots for years –– at least 5. They take months to make, so I'd have to make a decision soon. But then, Tabitha Simmons' designs caught my eye and sent my thoughts flitting in a different direction. Her "pair of nude silk slippers looks fit for a duchess or a Park Avenue princess." So...?
["Savoy" Boots, by special order at E. Vogl]
Windowlicker - from the French for window shopping: faire du lèche-vitrine - often appears on Tuesday and Thursdays at 10am EST-ish.

Oh, I'd never stay in tonight –– imagine how tired I'd feel! Instead: a nap and a bath, the Lambs Club for dinner, and then Jerusalem.

Let me know if any of these exist, for the iPad.
1. An app of butterfly wing patterns.
2. An app of Hermes scarves.
3. An app of bars in New York that require jackets for gentlemen.
4. An app of the slowest, most pleasurable options of traveling between two places, with an emphasis on train travel and ferries.
5. An app of gowns, and gloves that would match them.
6. A Cunard app (I found this, but can't download it for some reason). Also, an elegant champagne app from a smaller house.
7. An app of lesser-known fashion icons, i.e. Daisy Fellowes.
8. An app of stories by glamorous women who were/are also writers, obscure and with pictures of their clothes.
9. An app with pictures of cobblestones in different cities.
10. An app of guides to exotic places that I'd like to visit.
Honorable mention: I was going to add a Borzoi app, but then I remembered Evil Twin's Show Dogs app, which is genius.
Previously: How to Do the 21st Century.

There we were at 21, and my favorite Olympic rower who I met at a Tibetan Buddhist meditation retreat showed up when summoned because his bank is not too far away, and he took us all to the Yale Club and they let us stay out late on the rooftop bar if we promised to put the covers back on the couches and the bar was closed but he rounded up for us a tray of G&T's and bubbly because that is what a guy like that guesses that everyone drinks (correctly). But best of all, someone wrote in to say, Well, read Lux this evening, and 21 is on my mind. That was fun, and if it can exorcise the faux pas of "babysitting" comment (recognizing you never forget a thing, so one can only do again, better), be my guest any night and sit wherever you wish and your bouffant has only gotten better anyway.

I got an iPad today –– I need it for work, and confession: would like one for pleasure. I already do my reading on my NOOK, so this is mostly for exploring the possibilities for digital publishing on the app side. My first three acquisitions, in order, will be:
Storyville: a no-brainer. I publicized the launch of this magazine, which delivers one new story from a recently published collection every week. It's the best of the best of new writing, for busy people who would love to know what to read next without having to do any of the work of discovery. I am lobbying for a "vintage voices" vibe, with writers like Caroline Blackwood and William Saroyan in the mix. This week, check out Alethea Black (fun fact: we share a birthday). Who would you like to read next?
Levi Stahl (read his delicious writing, e.g. "The Beauties of Powell") at the University of Chicago press told me about the Gems and Jewels app they made for one of their books, Gems and Gemstones. I'm not going to lie, it was a major influence on me getting an iPad. I know, I'm so predictable. Isn't it marvelous?
I am also going to get one on mapping the stars. Again, I know...
What else should I consider? I'd love to hear your favorites.
