The other day a friend asked me what I like about clubs. "Just not being bothered," I said. "They know what you like." Today I went to India House and enjoyed the best Beef Wellington I've had since I was staying at a club in London, with a glass of wineand then my usual black coffee. They know that I prefer no bread on the table, and that, unless seduced, I only eat dessert when I'm with friends. I came home and opened my new "Maria Vittoria" purse from Dea Rosa (ordered within moments of reading this), while I listened to a friend's details on a love affair on my home phone. First, the oft-repeated, "What Would Lux Lotus Do? I heard your voice in my head half the night," and the should-be-more-repeated, "Then he picked me up and carried me to the bed."

Later this afternoon, I'm meeting a client, who's a member, at the Century Association. I just gave another client directions to the Yale Club, easy enough to remember even though I've never been. I joined another club this morning. That's what I like to do. Musing in the meantime: What Would Pauline Rothschild Wear?

"You lived such an interesting life!" "I'm still living it." (said in her '80s)
Tonight I had the distinct pleasure of attending a party in the Theater District for Katharine Weber's new family memoir, The Memory of All That, which included a preview of several songs from a "Fine and Dandy" revival, currently in production with a glamorous cast that includes a chorus comprised of a bevy of beauties, a banjo, a tuba, a handsome young tap dancer, and more than one soulful, wide-eyed redhead. Weber's grandmother was Kay Swift, wife of a Warburg (of the banking empire), and a composer in her own right who struck up a fruitful affair with Gershwin. She penned "Fine and Dandy" and "Can't We Be Friends?" among other hits. Below, some pictures (source: KaySwift.com), that speak for themselves. The book is out now.

I'm flying into Provincetown on Thursday for a long weekend. My instructions: pack for the beach, the boat, and the evenings.
