I wore this gorgeous pale blue scarf today that always makes me smile... Years ago I had a terrible argument with someone and he called me from Madrid and we worked it out, and I said, (sniff, sniff)... there's this store (hiccup) I heard is nice called Loewe you should go there if you see it... and then we started talking about Bolaño and honestly, I didn't even really remember meaning it other than that, it's nice, I heard it's nice and you like nice things and you must be bored. So then a few days later he showed up at my house in a Town Car and swept me away to this beautiful restaurant on the Upper East Side that transformed itself each season and what did he have? A big bag from Loewe and a very clever story about when the shopgirl had asked him, "Is she happy?" and he said, "She will be," or something similar. So whenever I wear that wrap I look in the mirror and shake my finger and say, spoiled, spoiled, spoiled... And then I laugh and go out and have a wonderful time.
