I'm not retiring or anything, although I am slowing down. My life is planned out 6-12 months in advance, so it'll be a while before the reverberation from decisions I am making currently reveals itself in the day-to-day but some things show up right away.
Case in point: I've stopped doing events, except for the big ones, and I don't go out anymore unless it feels essential. As a result, I've been spending time and energy in (and on) my apartment.
In the past few weeks, it seems like I only made three or four decisions about my balcony, and now it's a transformed space. I see the impact my full attention can have in an immediate way.
I bought new cushions for my chairs (I'm crazy about ikat), a new table more suitable for meals, and had a custom acrylic top made, and, over the course of a couple of weekends, painted my door in Farrow & Ball's "Green Smoke." All in all, I spent about $250. I have a half can of paint and a half can of primer left over, so if you have a project you could use it for (and can pick it up in New York), you're welcome to it. It's expensive and hard to find, and needs to be used within six months (it's ecologically formulated).
