My friend Kate has a new book out called Obsessive Consumption, a clever compendium of her daily drawings of purchases that helped her get out of debt. I own and treasure one (a golden shoe from Mississippi) that Jen gave me as a gift.
Things I bought today: a grey sequin vest and a black leather obi belt at Eileen Fisher in SoHo, to support Girls Write Now (I am the chair of the board). Other places to shop with brains and beauty to our benefit: Significant Objects and Glassybaby. A thing in SoHo that I wished was mine: an old Mercedes.
I also bought milk, two different kinds because they were both appealing. I just used a splash in the mac 'n' cheese I'm making for dinner, with peas and jalapenos and cheddar melted on top with cracked black pepper in my grandmother's iron skillet in the oven. And Cool Hand Luke at the drugstore. For all the obvious reasons.
