It is only my second day in Rome and I feel like I have been here much longer. Rome is also not like any city I have ever been to before. Like sometimes I want to say, Oh this is like Montmartre in Paris, or Mile End in Montreal or the old city in Dubrovnik, but no, it is just like Rome. It is not like anywhere else! The part of town I am staying in is very cinematic and glamorous, near The Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Last night I stayed at Casa Howard, which is like a secret countess love nest, right down to the skeleton keys. Now I am at a different place for the rest of the week, which has its own style although it is very different, more minimalist. Tomorrow I am heading over to the film festival to see if there are any press opportunities for the directors of The Afterlight. I have been to parties at Villa Medici two nights in a row. What can I say? Palazzos suit me. Last night someone told me I look like an old-fashioned movie star, and it made me laugh, because people always says that exact phrase, everywhere I go. One thing I have done differently here is given up my resistance to desire with regards to sleep or anything. In London, Antwerp, Tokyo, I would fight it! I would defeat jet lag! Here I sleep all day and eat ice cream for breakfast and do whatever I want. Just like the Romans.
