Friday, I got a notice to come down to the post office and pick up my latest ebay purchase, a black trilby from Antwerp by way of Falkirk. It came expertly wrapped in a gorgeous old hatbox and... didn't fit. Now I should have expected this disappointing outcome, doves, but I've always been a dreamer. Later that evening, either before or after Bryan (who heads back to Berlin for a few days tomorrow) saw Monika at IFC ("So beautiful and so totally depressing") we met up for a glass of wine at Cafe Katja and I took the hat to see if it would fit him (it didn't). Perhaps I'll take it to Worth & Worth and expect a miracle. Saturday night I had dinner with Amanda Stern at Madiba, the city's only South African restaurant (sadly I didn't see any jewelry for sale, or I would have bought some!). Sunday's highlights included scheming with my sister on how to get into India House and then a chillingly good performance by Vadim Gluzman and Angela Yoffe at the Frick (reassuring: the fact that I can identify a Hans Memling from twelve feet away). Today between meetings I got my hair cut by Gerald DeCock at the Hotel Chelsea, and then he blow dried it straight which was a total treat as was flipping through the Rick Owens look book he had just lying around! Then on my way to dinner, I picked up a copy of Stiletto, the house magazine of Roger Vivier, at the corner store, featuring what else but a fashion spread shot by Zoe Cassavates at the Hotel Chelsea. At Good World, I was most delighted to run into Lydia from Project No. 8 (your source for Boudicca corsets and Stephan Schneider everything) and Sadie from Scope Hamptons this summer (she's headed to Miami to exhibit her silkscreen monoprints at the upcoming fairs there; how fab is that?). Of course I introduced them. Oh, and earlier I got two phone calls that absolutely made my day, from London and Vancouver, respectively. Yesssssssssss. In other news, I have a few professional speaking engagements coming up-- New York: December 1. DC: January 14. Possibly in the spring: Virginia. Probably in the summer: Nebraska! Stay tuned.... Pictured: a music video directed by Lux Lotus favorite Stephen Lance that drives me c-r-a-z-y in about a million brilliant ways (can you find them all?).
