Last night: PauseTalk, Jean Snow's ingenious "forum where Tokyo-based creatives can get together and discuss their own projects, as well as cultural currents of the city." It was as brilliant as it sounds! Met lots of intriguing people including Jane Stockdale, a London/Berlin-based photographer with a show on view in the Daikanyama neighborhood, that I'll try to check out while I'm in town, and David Marx of Néojaponisme (currently enjoying: "Autumn Notes on Japanese Fashion"), as well as the afore-mentioned Jean, of course, who's writing a book on video games. It was also v.v. cool to see the gallery space at the cafe dedicated to Philomena Keet's Tokyo Look Book, which my lovely friend Sarah Russo at Oxford University Press in New York sent me before I left; its visually arresting, context-rich, anthropological overview of the local scene as expressed sartorially has proven to be an invaluable resource.
