I have a friend who has convincingly lamented the "deplorable" state of American candy bars vs. their British counterparts (I've only been to London for the day and was so terrified at the time of the "just double it" exchange rate that I hardly spent a pound and thus did no field research) but until now I haven't cause for comment. Earlier today I stopped by my oddly cosmopolitan bodega (hot sellers: PG Tips, Vogue Italia, Japanese eyelash curlers) for trash bags when I saw a rack of possibly British candy bars and picked one up on a lark. In short: it took me twice as long as I might otherwise have taken to eat it because I kept stopping to stare in awe at its "Golden Honeycombed Centre." Cadbury Crunchie: 1, Hershey (in the memorable words of Bryan, "It actually has dirt in it"): 0.
I found these bars (extra noir, noir and au lait) before the holidays for $3.49 at Marshall's. I was mainly after the extra noir, but settled for some of the noir and au lait. I lost count of the bars I bought.
