As regular readers know, one of my major projects is working on Barnes & Noble's Upstairs at the Square series. Tonight's guests are Badly Drawn Boy(Born in the UK) and Dana Spiotta(Eat the Document) and they'll read, perform and discuss their work with host Katherine Lanpher.
It should be pretty brilliant and I hope you'll join us if you're in the neighborhood! It's at the Union Square store, fourth floor, 7pm sharp (doors at 6), FREE.
In this week's edition of The Smart Set for MaudNewton.com: eleven paths over the table and under the chandelier. Which reminds me --I like to have a martini...Et toi?
Friday: Lunch with Ms. Litwit at Les Enfants Terribles, splurged on a ticket for Jarvis Cocker in April; received surprise delivery of gorgeous potted orchid from Takashimaya, courtesy of everyone's favorite venture capitalist.
Today: Driving an unexpectedly cute rental car back to the city, spring cleaning, getting ready for a big week work-wise, flipping through First Garden and listening to Regine Crespin, enjoyed lovely takeout dinner from Zucco (merci beaucoup Bryan) plus my favorite cookies for dessert, musing on travel as always.
Looking ahead: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor." -- Mark Twain (via Hip Tranquil Chick, p. 48; do join us Thursday!).
This week has been a blur of meetings work, brilliant things and sparkling coincidences and let's just say I've been putting my time in, paying some dues, punching that clock, and things are looking pretty good from here. I wanted to tell you all about at least a dozen charming people and projects I crossed paths with this week but then my internet connection went on the fritz this morning and so instead I'm at a cafe and need all the juice in my laptop for work correspondence.
In the meantime, hot tips: the best free wireless access downtown can be found at IniAni and 88 Orchard, both on the Lower East Side. And L&O Framing is unbelievable -- I'd never go anywhere else. Also in Tribeca, the shoe repair shop on the southwest corner of Duane & Broadway; I took my beloved black boots there, so beloved that I wore holes in them, and now they look like new.
