Kimberly Askew of Kim Said is guest-editing the Windowlicker feature this week. Enjoy!
A few months ago I was walking with my friends Patrick and Brian when we came upon an abandoned church organ resting on the sidewalk. I knew instantly that I had to have it (though I can’t even play the piano). I tried to persuade my companions that if they really tried, they would be able to muster the necessary strength to “help me" push it the two and half blocks along the sidewalk and up three flights of stairs to my apartment. Unfortunately it was so heavy that we couldn’t get the ungainly thing to budge even an inch. But neither would I--for some reason I desperately wanted that organ! Finally Brian resorted to flattery, “Kim, I really think you’re more the harpsichord type anyway.” After a moment’s hesitation, I had to concede the truth in that statement. Like the sword in the stone, if I couldn’t move it, perhaps it wasn’t meant for me.
