Tonight: went to a party for David Matthews' Ace of Spades, which Henry Holt is publishing in February. It was at Eleven Madison Park and pretty swish; a nice start to an evening out and about with Ms. Jen Bekman. From there, an Accompanied Literary Society/Vanity Fair party with Heather Graham reading from Lauren Redniss' Century Girl. Elizabeth Peyton gave a talk at the Whitney a few years ago and talked about her desire to capture the subjects of her portraits in a moment before they achieved greatness (then she started painting her hipster friends and I lost interest). Book parties always make me think of that.
