Today's "real feel" in New York is allegedly 107 degrees -- fortunately, I have no other engagements than working on projects and I can have everything delivered, so I won't have to venture out until after dark when it's expected to be a blessedly balmy 79.
All this heat has me thinking, however, about one of my favorite topics: "what's next?" What do you think?
In terms of fall, I'd say: international style, taxidermy, rollerskating (see end of fashion, lock up your daughters), tropicalia, intense bursts of color, punk attitude and scandinavian food. This week and next: iced chai.

After a loooong day at my desk, a walk up to Nolita Ice Cream Factory for a scoop of red bean and a stroll over to McNally Robinson to pick up that copy of Barbara Bestor's Bohemian Modern that I ordered was the perfect pick-me-up. Yum! Sweet link: Portia Wells in Metro 212.

So much talk about the famous headbutt barely raised an eyebrow at Maison de Lux except to draw attention to the expectedly chic stylings of the French team. Notes Bryan in an email (quoted with permission):
The French soccer team also dressed in the same outfits when they weren't on the field - black suits, white shirts, black ties (double windsor knots). And check out the lining of Zidane's jacket - I should dress like this:
Bien sur! I'd start with the tie:

I'm working on (another) cool summer buzz promo with author M.J. Rose, to raise online awareness of her new novel, THE VENUS FIX. The goal is to raise $2500 for a good cause, (which M.J. has personally pledged based on the contest rules) -- TBD by your votes! The contenders are Reading is Fundamental (RIF), Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), and there are three ways to play:
1) Visit www.myspace.com/venusfix and cast a vote for your favorite charitable organization in the online poll. We'll announce the winner on August 16 after the voting concludes.
2) If you're a registered user on MySpace, request The Venus Fix as a friend to earn a $1 pledge toward the final amount and user-selected winner (TBD on August 16, as noted above).
3) If you have a blog, create a post that links to www.vidlit.com/venus and www.mjrose.com and email the permalink to [email protected] to be counted as a $5 pledge toward the poll-winning nonprofit organization. We'll also randomly select one entry per week through August 16 to win a signed, personalized copy of THE VENUS FIX!
And, of course, check Buzz, Balls & Hype weekly for an update on M.J.'s campaign to engage 500 blogs!
