Last night I was strolling on Pall Mall on my way back from dinner with friends on the South Bank, evidently not too far a walk from work in the City (a couple of those nice men who I met in Mazama, no less!), and I stopped across from a stunning club (there are about a dozen) and thought, what a shame I'll never go there. And then, tonight, I was led to that very stretch and told to take my pick for dinner. While it was a difficult choice, it was hardly a sacrifice, because we can go to one of the others tomorrow, I'm told, although I will absolutely need a new frock for that. Anyway, that's the one I chose, the grand one that left me so crestfallen at the thought that I'd never step inside, and there I was, twenty-fours later, ordering champagne at my leisure. And it was so astonishingly handsome, very, very dark, and marble and a combination of green and gold in the card room that I shall remember forever. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. SEND MORE GOWNS.
Lovely! Hmmm, get to the Garrick Club if you can, the pictures they have hanging on the walls are pretty amazing - lots of wonderful Garrick paraphernalia (he was the most frequently represented person in 18th-century Britain other than the monarch!)...
