At Books & Books in South Beach, I was tempted by a biography of Elizabeth Taylor entitled, How to Be a Movie Star. Isn't that great? I bought Francoise Sagan's That Mad Ache (La Chamade) instead and never regretted it but the thought of the former lingered in my mind for the better part of the afternoon. Why do certain affinities resonate? What captivates more quickly: desire or nostalgia? I personally had no idea that I would be so willing to buy a fragrance with someone's name on it. Yeah, put Baudelaire, Apollinaire, Rimbaud or Verlaine (or even Marie de France) on anything and I don't even need to authorize the transaction.
