I'm just back from a long weekend in Miami for the Summit Series, a fascinating and exhilarating conference that brings together successful entrepreneurs and motivated activists in a retreat environment for the purpose of changing the world. It's a tall order and yet I felt that it was wholly effective and singular in the sense that I met people who I never would have met otherwise. Listing individuals by name would take too long right now (and I am pretty tired) and also, the spirit of the gathering was a very inspiring message that everyone matters. In the future, though, if I mention anyone I've met there, I'll note the provenance of our connection. Most of the days and evenings were devoted to networking and breakout discussion groups (I focused on my work with Girls Write Now and Barnes & Noble's "Upstairs at the Square" series). I did stroll around South Beach a little, and found the Art Deco architecture, palm trees and ubiquitous neon signage alluring in its unique way. And Books & Books, which I stopped into, is a chic and brilliantly curated bookstore. My favorite moment, though, was probably during dinner with a trio of new friends on Friday night, when I was asked my favorite obscure song, and someone else improbably knew the words! Here's The Ronettes covering "Silhouettes."
