As you may recall, I came to Rome to handle the publicity for the world premiere of The Afterlight, a New York independent film in the International Rome Film Festival, and it's going gangbusters:
Variety predicted it would be a highlight of the festival.
As did Corriere Della Serra (Italy's leading daily): "Among the surprises in [The Extra] section is THE AFTERLIGHT, by Alexei Kaleina and Craig Macneill, two young men from Brooklyn that tell the story of a couple in crisis. The landscapes and images echo the era of silent film." (translated)
While the curators said: "The Afterlight is a debut of suggestions that proudly display an echo of Antonioni (and perhaps Russian or Lithuanian influences in the lyrical vocation of the landscape and the mystery of the characters' thoughts). The two young directors speak the language of cinema with precision, expertise and fascination, where the story is driven like a breeze of pure images."
FilmFilm.it said, in its review, ""More than Antonioni's L'Eclisse comes to mind L'Avventura, while the human microcosm that surrounds the two main characters sometimes has accents of Bergman."
And, according to MP News, "The Afterlight is a great directorial exercise, a visual experience. Every image seems to be a painting, a landscape or a perfectly immortalized image."
The Daily Mail (UK) spotlighted the red carpet, including The Afterlight's Ana Asensio with Helen Mirren, Lily Cole and Rose McGowan as standouts!
