Windowlicker arrives in a leisurely fashion today because I spent the morning doing client calls and editing press releases (see the calendar here), and then ran out the door to meet the enchanting Kari for lunch, barely editing some semblance of an outfit-- lately it's a mash-up of whatever I wore to the last party or event I was at, and the one before that (plus the most magnificent little jackets: today it was a modern navy silk cropped parachute number from Project No. 8, last night it was a vintage fur stole I grabbed for a wrap because I happened to be lying on my bed with it across my pillow when I realized I was going to be really late!). In the cab today, the tv monitor automatically came on, leading me to press "OFF" on the touch screen with my index finger while thinking, I would do anything to turn you off, and then, what an apt description that it is for my desire to go on a little holiday. I have to fight my own freakishly devoted work ethic in that regard, and it's almost impossible to take a break when you intrinsically love your job like I do. Everyone needs a departure from the ordinary though, and I like to dream about what I might do and the places I might go when the moment is right. I'm not the only one, I think, laughing to recall the last email everyone's favorite venture capitalist sent me from the airport at 6AM, en route to yet another business trip... "Am looking [in a magazine] at a villa in the Maldives while freezing out here in Newark, only 2880 pounds per person (including full board!!!)." Today's original lunch destination, Casablanca Tea Room, appears to have sadly closed, so Kari and I bopped down the block to the Mercer Kitchen, where we had a lovely meal and conversation about life in New York, where we've been, where we're headed, her charming blog, Casual Heap (nee Litwit), and her admirable ambition to break into writing for television. Afterwards, I strolled over to McNally Robinson for a cappuccino in the cafe while I chatted on the phone with Janice for an update (basically: HOT AND HOTTER) and then stopped to pick up Mario Vargo Llosa's The Bad Girl on the way out, because who can resist? Not I. I can't remember where I read that this bag was originally designed to carry champagne, but I like the novelty of it. And the suggestion.
