LOVE AFFAIR WITH FIREARMS
by Medbh McGuckian

"From behind the moon boys' graves
bleed endlessly; from photograph
to browning photograph they blacken
headlines, stranded outside of time
at the story's frigid edge."

Go Bryan!

My favorite ex-boyfriend Bryan Keefer is looking sharp in the Washington Post (nothing new for him, he's a NYT bestselling author who crushed it on the Daily Show; in fact, the first time I ever saw him was in Washingtonian when he was 22! I was in the smoking room at the union that I worked for then and was like, hello. I ripped it out and everything). Anyway, it's a nice piece for Brijit.com the brilliant new media outfit he's involved with (think: The Week for the Facebook set). Take a look.

New Traditions

If I were to start some based on the past 36 hours... going to the opera solo on Saturday night and skipping out at intermission, impromptu 6 o'clock martinis at the St. Regis at twilight Sunday evening ...

Weekend Hotlist

Darjeelinglimited

See:
Darjeeling Limited (I saw it with my siblings and we all agreed it captures the dynamic of three children perfectly; well, my sister said so while my brother was getting snacks and then he told me when she went to wash her hands). It's best screened with the prequel companion short film Hotel Chevalier, as is currently the case in theaters.

Hear: A Girl Called Eddy, e.g. Did you see the moon tonight? Did it shine the way I asked it to?

Touch: The new silver cuff I bought from Tunji Dada, after my old one inspired such astonishing comments as (from a bartender): "You'd better take that off before I snatch it!"

Smell: Dior Midnight Poison, and tell me if it's any good!

Taste: the delicious local Croatian red wine, Plavac.

Windowlicker

Camaro_blue_lg

Today's obscure object of desire comes courtesy of a tip from my mother: Kim White handbags, "designed from vintage automotive fabrics." Pretty hot! This clutch is clutch.

[Special Edition Blue Cut-Out Clutch, "Intended for use in a 1983 Camaro." $225]

Windowlicker - from the French for window shopping: faire du lèche-vitrine - appears on Tuesday and Thursdays at 10am EST-ish.

London Friday

Remember when I met up with future-forward textile designer Elena Corchero for lunch at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London? Well, in a marvelous turn of serendipity she's giving a talk there on her work this Friday as part of a series on Saving Planet Earth: A 21st Century Approach. All y'all in town should absolutely attend (I wish so much that I could), and I promise you'll be awestruck by her aesthetic vision and pragmatic approach to sustainable design and integrative technology.
