I love that moment of silence just before the arm of the record player drops into the crackling hissss for a second 'til the song starts. It's kind of like the moment right before a kiss. The last time I kissed someone it was in the dark and I was so nervous (was he? hard to say); that pregnant pause seemed to last forever. So imagine, that, and then conjure up the perfect daydream of lying back on a picnic blanket, enjoying a soft summer breeze, a nice spread, and the soulful stirrings of Erykah Badu on vinyl: When incense burns, smoke unfurls, analog girl in a digital world...zip dip dow, zip dip dow... There's really no limit to the places that a suitcase with a record player (or the very thought of one) can take you.
