For the next few days I'll be discussing my recent trip to London and Dubrovnik, starting with, naturally, the end.
It was hard to be certain whether planning to go to one of my events directly from the airport when I returned last night was a good idea; mostly it just had to be done and I was less occupied with philosophical questions than those of a logistical nature. As soon as the plane landed, I made my way through customs, called for a car, and shimmied into the one item of clothing I bought on the trip, a little black beauty of a dress from the clearance rack at New Look -- which, at the right angle, is a respectable echo of my not-to-be love, that Dirk Van Saene number in Antwerp last Fall -- smoothed on a little makeup and brushed my hair, changed my shoes, and made my way into the city. And actually, it turned out to be a pretty fantastic way to come home. Going to a dreamy bar for a show of paintings that you love, where your favorite DJ is playing all your favorite songs (Cut Copy! Klaxons! Miss Kittin!), and catching up with all your favorite people is as as good as it gets. Next: Blondie, Callwave and the importance of timing.
