Enjoyed a terrific weekend... Friday evening I met my younger brother, in town for business, for barbeque at Daisy Mae's, where the Mason jar of sweet tea could never be big enough in my opinion (best to stash a spare in your handbag)... afterwards, I met up with Lux Lotus reader Marco Romano, he of the immaculate musical taste, kawaii french bulldog, and culture blog, AnimaMundi, and his wife K., in town to celebrate her birthday, for a lovely drink at subterranean hipster hideaway Little Branch... Saturday was brunch at Walker's with my brother and other low-key affairs... Last night made a short trip to Brooklyn for Sunday Salon, which held a fantastic fundraiser for Girls Write Now... Bill Gordon, whose cinematically captivating novel, Mary After All, I had the privilege of working on earlier this year, read as part of the festivities and I won the book I had my eye on in the raffle: Travelers' Tales: Prague and the Czech Republic... Also chatted with singer-songwriter Sophie Herbert on the subway back... what a delight! Spiderman 3 has been filming near my apartment all weekend and that's been amusing, too; here's what I can predict... There will be a scene, probably in the beginning of the film, involving a too craftily naive street fair, complete with disco shimmery arch... also Kirsten Dunst (or similar blonde) Bryce Dallas Howard stands at the subway and Spiderman does this kind of swooping thing through the air to land next to her... A traditional blockbuster rom-com narrative arc ensues, I'm sure... Still, all kinds of enchantment downtown, always.
