She's Got Cattitude

Theresa Duncan of Wit of the Staircase sent in this soigne if slightly subdued darling, doing that "Dress Like a Cat Until You Get What You Want" thing. That polka dot motif, coupled with the Camper classic kicks, is simply unstoppable. A "do."

And, in browsing today, I came across the "DLACUYGWYW"-alicious work of artist Emily Martin, via Seth Godin's blog post about the etsy phenomenon (my fave etsy'istas: True Nature/Queen Things and Alice Disse/Mirna). Pictured below, Emily's Wistful White Catgirl print, which she's selling via etsy for just thirteen dollars.

It reminds me a bit of a fabulous feline chapeau that Queen Bee Creations used to make a few years ago. Sadly, dear reader, I catnapped on it.

We Three Queens: The Lux Lotus "Queen of Fashion" Contest Winner(s)

We have a winner for the "Queen of Fashion" Contest -- actually, three winners. The entries were so exquisite that I requested additional advance copies of Queen of Fashion: What Marie-Antoinette Wore to the Revolution by Caroline Weber (Henry Holt & Company, October 2006) from the publisher, because I like to believe that everyone wins at Lux Lotus! I will be posting one winning entry each day for the rest of the week.

Theresa L. Duncan:

Wanted: Stylish Field Correspondent

Pucciiii

I have an invitation to a cocktail party/private viewing of vintage Braniff International Airways Flight Attendant Uniforms (mostly 1960s-70s Halston and Pucci designs) next Wednesday evening in Chelsea (the collection will be auctioned the next day), and although I can make it if I juggle some plans, I'd love to offer the opportunity to an NYC Lux Lotus reader who would like to attend in my place and send in a blog report (a couple of digital snapshots and a 50-100 word recap). Email me.

Update: reader Helena Blackmore will be covering it for Lux Lotus!

Windowlicker

F_6365_light_blue

When I was a school-skipping rave lover, sometimes I dressed in head-to-toe baby blue. At one point I had blue hair, which accented my double-pierced nose and ears and tongue piercing. Now I'm scarcely a decade older and confessing my love for a baby blue rocking chair. I am sure my teenage self would have predicted exactly that, but no matter, I have been crazy about this Eames RAR Rocker ($379) forever. Lately.

A few of these oversized teacup and saucer shaped planters casually placed scattershot througout a slightly overgrown yard or haphazard terrace would lend a romantic touch, especially with the addition of a couple of Saint Esprit side tables, some French cafe chairs, and a sweet slug to light the way after a few too many pichets of Bordeaux...

Looking good (if I weren't planning to catch up on work/projects this weekend):

Special note to readers in Los Angeles: Quality of Life opens this Friday, with cast + crew afterparty at Beauty Bar! While I represent the filmmakers in New York and for the national release this July of both the DVD and Putting The Pieces Together (to be published by Soft Skull Press) they have a great team in LA, including the enchanting Mickey Cottrell. Anyway, go see the film! It has made boys cry.

Instant Love

You can read the title story from Instant Love, out in June, at Nerve.com. I'm thrilled to publicize one of the summer's most highly anticipated debuts, and to work with literary phenom Jami Attenberg! If you plan to be in New York on June 15th, do join us for the kickoff of Jami's national tour (afterparty details TBA @ the reading). See also: Instant Love "Facts."
