Tonight, from 6-8pm, Heart of Gold and Other Expensive Things, a new exhibition of paintings by Jeffrey Teuton opens at Jen Bekman.
Teuton's work is a fusion of pop culture, architecture, icons, fame, power, money, sex, and shopping. He channels his commentary and criticism of contemporary consumer culture (and his own complicity and pleasure in it) via status-obsessed birds who voice their designer desires and Hollywood dreams in thought-bubbles strewn across abstracted landscapes.
Jen Bekman remarks, “Teuton’s work is funny and sharp. At its most
obvious, the paintings lampoon label whores and status seekers. As a
body of work, those themes remain at the forefront, but the
undercurrent of alienation and unmet longing becomes more persistent.”
You do not want to miss this one! This evening, there will be limited edition posters for sale and fortune cookies with unexpected messages. Afterparty at Blvd. Details and more: www.jenbekman.com.
