As you may know, I produce or help put together a lot of events for my clients in the course of my work as an independent publicist. Next week, for no particular reason that comes to mind (other than perhaps the notion that I don't look at my calendar when I'm talking to people -- it's rude! -- and have thus far held out on getting either an assistant or a Blackberry), I feel fairly responsible in varying degrees for four events (plus another hot-sounding one for good measure). They'll all be smashingly fun, 4 out of 5 are FREE, and you're invited to any or all that hangs the moon; nay, I beg for your presence, dear. It's good company.
MONDAY

Director Joe Pacheco (client) kicks off a brilliant new film series, which will "present audiences with the best in contemporary independent cinema." The feature is David Dixon's Unloosened and Root, and it will be shown with shorts "Late Bloomer" and "Barbara Leather" by director Craig Macneill (client) and Seth Lind, respectively. A Q&A with filmmakers follows the screening.
TUESDAY
The Art of Online Criticism, @Makor. Cultural critics find themselves in the same predicament as other members of the traditional media who now must learn the rules of a new game. Hear three influential critics who write both online and for print discuss how the cultural conversation is evolving and what the future hold when everyone's a critic. Bryan Keefer (we go steady) moderates, with guests Maud Newton, Sasha Frere-Jones and Terry Teachout.
WEDNESDAY
Jen Bekman (client) debuts a new salon series called @jenbekman: words and pictures. Our guest on Wednesday evening is award-winning poet Lizzie Skurnick. P.S. The motto of the gallery is, "Live with art, it's good for you." It's also affordable, and Jen Bekman brings emerging artists together with emerging collectors. Fun place, gorgeous space, great people. [photo credit: Eliot Shepard]
THURSDAY
This one counts as an event featuring a client, and I'll be attending with pleasure, but I'm not involved with it other than that: Marcy Dermansky (client), author of the hotly buzzed-about debut novel TWINS, reads from her work with Animal Crackers author Hannah Tinti as part of the Behind The Book Reading Series at downtown literary temple KGB. "Behind The Book is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing a life-long love of reading and writing in young people."
FRIDAY
Maria Scavullo, painter extraordinaire and artist behind the illustration of yours truly at LaurenCerand.com, is showing some paintings at Lolita in the first public exhibition of her truly stunning work. My friends at Emerging Arts and Trigger Magazine are helping to spread the word, and soon-to-be international jetset superstar Maxx Klaxon (client) is contributing an exclusive set of "eclectic electropop" on the decks.
