I bought a gift this afternoon for friends who just had a baby, and I was stunned by how treacly most infant fashion is these days. I especially despise the spectacle of children dressed like miniature adults, and also the "sportswear" trend. It's ridiculous. Babies don't do anything remotely sporty, so what do they need pockets for -- keys?
The whole experience made me realize that perhaps a future calling for yours truly is as a designer of a line of tiny black cashmere onesies, with limited accessories - perhaps just a knit hat with horns and a good poncho. (noted: Isn't this clever? You can also DIY - but seriously, darling, never in red.)
I could call my little capsule collection - obviously I'm only doing resort - "Les Fleurs du Mal," and I suppose that's fitting, as it would certainly be about reversability.
In the meantime, if you have to buy a baby gift, for real: I like flora & henri.
